The Olympics and the Dartford Crossing; a chance not to be missed?
With the forthcoming Olympics and the expected traffic problems in London, which many believe will cause some traffic to divert to the already congested Dartford Crossing; the Association of British Drivers calls on the Government to take the initiative of discontinuing the tolls for a pre-determined period. We suggest this pre-determined period should run in parallel with the special Olympic lanes timetable for London and that all toll barriers are locked in the open position for that period.
Such a trial would give a more accurate forecast of traffic flows when there are no tolls present, and whether there is a real need for another Thames crossing.
With the world's media attending this major event, do we really want a vision of gridlocked Great Britain, to be presented to a worldwide audience?
